Reviving our nation,
one heart at a time,
through God's Word.
A Famous Political Speech
Ephesians 2:10
For we are His workmanship, created In Christ Jesus for good works, which
God prepared beforehand so tha we would walk in them.
Througth the years there have been some presidents that have been great communicators. The two that come to mind right off the bat are the late John F. Kennedy and the late Ronald Reagan. And while both men had people that wrote their speeches for them, they both had the uncanny ability to take those words and almost make them come to life.
These two great presidents knew how to make people come together, and these two great presidents knew what to say and how to say it in order to get people to come to action.
We just finished our 40 Days of Purpose study, both corporately and individiually at our church, and Sunday we had a celebration service with all three of our worship services and three of our chruch plants meeting together in once place at one time to celebrate the Lord and what He has done and is continuing to do in the life of our churches and ourselves.
And it was during this celebration service that our pastor read the words of Ephesians chapter two and verse 10. The words while being read caused me to remember President Kennedy and what is probably his most famous political speech.
I wasn't alive while Kennedy was president, but I do remember this famous political speech. If you have lived in America for any extended period of time a person has probably reheard this speech at least once a year. Or at least the famous phrase taken from the speech.
The famous political speech that I'm talking about is Kennedy's inaugural speech to the nation, in 1960, in which he called on Americans to "ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country."
Those are still powerful words even when spoken today. And I remembered these words because today we need to call on Christians to "ask not what our God can do for you, but ask what you can do for our God!"
Christianity is being perverted right in front of us, by our own Christian brothers and sisters. The Word of God is being perverted from many a pulpit across this nation.
It's being perverted because we are teaching and preaching that for some reason it's all about us and what God can do for us and how God can bless us and how God can deliver us so forth and so on. Please don't misunderstand me, God is capable of doing all those things. We serve an awesome and almighty God of which there is no doubt.
In this world there are two kinds of folks. There are givers and there are takers. Very rarely do you find a balance of giving and taking. But I believe with all my heart that God has called us to be 100% givers. Because if we were all 100% givers we wouldn't have to worry about taking!
For some reason we want people to know that God can save them from an eternal damnation. And He can save them to live eternally with Him in a heaven that we can't even imagine how wonderful it truly is. And after our salvation experience God wants to do nothing but give to us and bless us for the rest of our natural lives.
While being spared from a devil's hell and the assurance that we will spend eternity in the presence of God are indeed benefits from our salvation, they are secondary benefits. God has called us and saved us because we are a part of His plans. He has called out workers for the harvest. Fellow brother and sister in the Lord we were saved not so that we could be takers from God, but so that we could be givers to God.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God's workmanship and we were created (God makes us into a new creation when we are saved) in Christ for good works.
So today we need to be about God's work, and not consumed with our own needs. Because if we are asking God to work in and through us, He's going to take care of the things that we need. He has promised that. He tells us that if He cares enough to take care of the birds, how much more does He care about and take care of us. God does want to bless you. But that can not be our focus in life.
Father I ask that you show me where I need to be involved in Your ministry. Show me how You want to use me for Your purpose. Please forgive me for being a taker. Create in me a giving heart and a giving mindset. Father I surrender everything that I am and everything that I have completely and totally to You today, tomorrow and the rest of the days you have set out for me. Here I am Lord send me!
May that be our prayer in these days and in the days to come until the Lord returns. Until next time may the grace and peace of our God and Lord be upon you! God bless you!
