Reviving our nation,
one heart at a time,
through God's Word.

A Glimmer in the Darkness

Matthew 5
13 "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
14 "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Here in Houston U.S. District Judge Sim Lake ruled Tuesday that a Bible on display in a monument outside the Harris County Civil Courts Building unconstitutionally promoted religion. And he ordered the county to have it removed within 10 days.

Now this is not a new phenomenon as there have been a numerous attacks on symbols of Christianity across the nation in recent years. The most memorable might be the ordered removal of the 10 Commandments monument in the rotunda of Alabama's state judicial building.

While these occurrences are unfortunately becoming more common place in today's society, the one here in Houston struck me differently.

You see the plaintiff in the case Kay Staley, a real estate broker and attorney, told the Houston Chronicle her beliefs are "personal and not anybody else's business."

I am not aware if Staley claims to be a Christian or not. That is not our place to judge as that is between her and God as is the salvation of each person.

However, I do know that there have been an increasing number of people that claim to be "Christians" who are trying to get the very symbols of their faith removed from public places.

And I just find it odd each time one of these "Christians" say they are people of faith yet they say their faith is "personal and no one else's business."

For the "true" Christian, that statement is in direct conflict from what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ tells us in the Word!

Once we receive the "TRUTH" of Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers, He commands us to tell other people about what He has done in our life and how others can share in this salvation.

There is a particular politician running for public office that has said he "doesn't wear his faith on his sleeve." Well Mr. Politician if you are a "true" child of the living Almighty God, you sir are commanded not only to wear your faith on your sleeve, but you sir are supposed to be fully clothed in your faith (see Ephesians 6:11).

Christians we are a city on the hill . . . the salt of the earth . . . the light of the world. It is time to rise up and let the "TRUTH" be known. We can not be silent and personal about our faith any longer. Let Jesus shine the Light through you!
